What is ISO 22000



ISO 22000 is an International Standard which is not a HACCP standard but is found
in accordance with the principles of HACCP defined by CODEX. It is also compatible with other
regulations of the EU on food safety and harmonizes voluntary international standards.
The standard specifies the requirements that can be met and certified
and is compatible with other quality management standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001).



ISO 22000 can be applied by all businesses in the food chain, regardless of size
and complexity, which are directly or indirectly involved in one or more stages of the food chain
(such as feed production, agriculture harvesting, ingredient production, manufacturing, retail,
food distribution, food supply, cleaning and disinfection services, transport, storage
and distribution as well as suppliers of equipment, cleaners and disinfectants, packaging materials
and other food contact materials).



The standard specifies the requirements for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
throughout the food chain to the final consumer which combines as basic elements:

• mutual communication in the food chain
• the principles of management systems
• the prerequisite programs
• the principles of HACCP
